Oral Conscious Sedation

Patients who experience severe dental phobia or anxiety may want to consider oral conscious sedation. This form of dental sedative is administered via a prescription pill taken about an hour before treatment. That means, before you ever leave home, you’ll already feel very relaxed. This is why many dental phobics prefer oral conscious sedation. However, you’ll need to have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment and monitor you during recovery from sedation for at least eight hours.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is one of the oldest forms of dental sedation still in use, and it is still one of the most popular forms of sedation. Nitrous oxide is a gas inhaled through a nasal mask during any dental treatment. Commonly referred to as laughing gas, this treatment option allows patients to relax in complete comfort free from pain during even the most extensive dental procedures. We are able to quickly adjust the dosage of sedative during treatment. Perhaps most importantly, the sedative effects of nitrous oxide wear away as quickly as they set in. That means you’re able to return to your daily activities immediately following the dental procedure. No need to take off one or more days from work or school for dental care, and you won’t need a friend or family member to drive you to and from our Wylie dental office.
